# MetadataDictionary.Item Property 
 
Gets or sets the element at the specified key.

### Parameters
 
 - key
     - Type: System.Object
The Object to use as the key of the element to get or set. Typically it is a number that represents an EXIF/IPTC tag or Adobe resource block ID.
 
### Property Value
The element at the specified key.

IDictionary.Item[Object]
 
## Remarks
  
If the dictionary contains several elements with a given key, this property returns the first element. To get all the elements, use [GetItemArray(Object)](https://www.graphicsmill.com/docs/gm/M_Aurigma_GraphicsMill_Codecs_MetadataDictionary_GetItemArray_1_d02429b3.htm.md) method.
 
If you need to extract a string representation of this element, you should use [GetItemString(Object)](https://www.graphicsmill.com/docs/gm/M_Aurigma_GraphicsMill_Codecs_MetadataDictionary_GetItemString_1_d02429b3.htm.md) method. For those elements which returns a enumeration value, it will return human-friendly string instead of the number.
