# Installation and Redistribution Notices

This topic explains how to install Graphics Mill on a development machine or a target server. It also describes which files you need to redistribute with your application.

## Installation

There are three ways to install Graphics Mill. The easiest one is NuGet.

### Installation via NuGet

With NuGet you do not need to install anything on the development machine. You only add the Graphics Mill package to your project. NuGet adds the reference for you and copies the assemblies to the output folder of your application.

The packages are named `Aurigma.GraphicsMill.Core.xNN ` and `Aurigma.GraphicsMill.Templates.xNN `. *NN* is `64` or `86`, depending on the target platform of your application. Each package contains a `net472` build and a `net9.0-windows7.0` build. NuGet picks the build that matches the target framework of your project.

Install the core package to use the core image processing features:

```
dotnet add package Aurigma.GraphicsMill.Core.x64
```

Install the templates package to work with PSD templates:

```
dotnet add package Aurigma.GraphicsMill.Templates.x64
```

The templates package depends on the core package, so NuGet installs the core package automatically.

The `dotnet add package` command works with SDK-style projects. If your project uses `packages.config`, run `Install-Package Aurigma.GraphicsMill.Core.x64` in the Visual Studio Package Manager Console instead. You can also find the packages in the NuGet user interface of your IDE:

### Graphics Mill SDK

If you do not want to use NuGet, install Graphics Mill SDK on a development machine. It includes Graphics Mill binaries and documentation. It also automatically installs Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable Package. To install this package just run the `GraphicsMillSDK.exe` file and follow the wizard steps. When the installation is completed, you get a number of folders and files organized in the following structure:

```
/Graphics Mill 12 SDK
    /Binaries
        /net472
            /x64
            /x86
        /net9.0
            /x64
            /x86
    /Help
    /VCRedists
```

The `Binaries/net472` folder contains assemblies for .NET Framework 4.7.2 and higher, the `Binaries/net9.0` folder contains assemblies for .NET 9 and higher (Windows only). `x64` and `x86` stand for the target platform of your application. Each of these folders contains `Aurigma.GraphicsMill.dll` and `Aurigma.GraphicsMill.Templates.dll` with their XML documentation files. The `net9.0` folders also contain `Ijwhost.dll`.

### Graphics Mill Server Redistributable Package

Install Graphics Mill Server Redistributable Package on a web server (staging or production) if you deploy without NuGet. It includes Graphics Mill binaries only. It also automatically installs Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable Package. To install this package just run the `GraphicsMillRedistributable.exe` file and follow the wizard steps. When the installation is completed, you get a number of folders and files organized in the following structure:

```
/Graphics Mill 12 Redistributable
    /Binaries
        /net472
            /x64
            /x86
        /net9.0
            /x64
            /x86
    /VCRedists
```

## Redistribution

### Graphics Mill Binaries

If you installed the NuGet packages, the references are already in your project. You do not need to add them. If you installed Graphics Mill SDK, add references to the assemblies from the `Binaries` folder. Use the `net472` or `net9.0` subfolder that matches your target framework, and the `x64` or `x86` subfolder that matches your target platform. You need to redistribute the assemblies your application references.

The table below describes the Graphics Mill DLL files and their functionality.

|  File Name |  Description |
| --- | --- |
 |  `Aurigma.GraphicsMill.dll` |  Contains classes from the [Aurigma.GraphicsMill](https://www.graphicsmill.com/docs/gm/N_Aurigma_GraphicsMill.htm.md), [Aurigma.GraphicsMill.Codecs](https://www.graphicsmill.com/docs/gm/N_Aurigma_GraphicsMill_Codecs.htm.md), [Aurigma.GraphicsMill.Codecs.ClippingPath](https://www.graphicsmill.com/docs/gm/N_Aurigma_GraphicsMill_Codecs_ClippingPath.htm.md), [Aurigma.GraphicsMill.Codecs.Psd](https://www.graphicsmill.com/docs/gm/N_Aurigma_GraphicsMill_Codecs_Psd.htm.md), [Aurigma.GraphicsMill.Drawing](https://www.graphicsmill.com/docs/gm/N_Aurigma_GraphicsMill_Drawing.htm.md), [Aurigma.GraphicsMill.Licensing](https://www.graphicsmill.com/docs/gm/N_Aurigma_GraphicsMill_Licensing.htm.md), and [Aurigma.GraphicsMill.Transforms](https://www.graphicsmill.com/docs/gm/N_Aurigma_GraphicsMill_Transforms.htm.md) namespaces. It is part of the `Aurigma.GraphicsMill.Core.xNN ` NuGet package. |
 | `Aurigma.GraphicsMill.Templates.dll` | Contains classes from the [Aurigma.GraphicsMill.Templates](https://www.graphicsmill.com/docs/gm/N_Aurigma_GraphicsMill_Templates.htm.md) namespace, including **PsdProcessor**, which you need to render PSD templates. It requires `Aurigma.GraphicsMill.dll`, so redistribute both files. It is part of the `Aurigma.GraphicsMill.Templates.xNN ` NuGet package. |
 | `Ijwhost.dll` | Required by the .NET 9 build of `Aurigma.GraphicsMill.dll`. Redistribute it in the same folder as `Aurigma.GraphicsMill.dll`. The .NET Framework 4.7.2 build does not need it. NuGet copies it to the output folder automatically. |

### Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable Package

If you are going to distribute your application to a machine where it is not guaranteed that Visual C++ is installed, you should install the Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable Package along with your application. You can find these packages in the `VCRedists` subfolder of the Graphics Mill installation folder or download them directly from the Microsoft site. For both .NET Framework 4.7.2 and .NET 9 assemblies, you need to install [Microsoft Visual C++ 2015-2022 Redistributable Package (x86)](https://aka.ms/vs/17/release/vc_redist.x86.exe) and [Microsoft Visual C++ 2015-2022 Redistributable Package (x64)](https://aka.ms/vs/17/release/vc_redist.x64.exe) .

### Adobe® CMM

If the application references Graphics Mill and uses Adobe® CMM for color conversion operations, you need to make sure that Adobe® CMM is installed on your users' systems. You should write about this dependency in your documentation and should also consider redistributing Adobe® CMM within your installation package. You can download the Adobe® CMM for Windows from the Adobe site: [helpx.adobe.com](https://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/kb/adobe-color-management-module.html).

**Note**
Adobe® CMM can be used with the x86 version of Graphics Mill only.

## Uninstallation

To uninstall Graphics Mill SDK or Graphics Mill Server Redistributable Package open **Control Panel**, click **Programs and Features**, then select **Aurigma Graphics Mill 12.1.17** and click **Uninstall**. After that click **Yes**, and follow the wizard instructions.

If you installed the NuGet packages, remove them from your project:

```
dotnet remove package Aurigma.GraphicsMill.Core.x64
```

If you use the templates package, remove `Aurigma.GraphicsMill.Templates.x64` the same way.

In a `packages.config` project, run `Uninstall-Package Aurigma.GraphicsMill.Core.x64` in the Package Manager Console.
