# FormatManager.RegisterFormatWriter Method 
 
Registers format writer and returns a boolean value indicating whether the registration was successful.

### Parameters
 
 - pWriterType
     - Type: [System.Type](http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/42892f65)
The format writer type which implements the [IFormatWriter](https://www.graphicsmill.com/docs/gm5/T_Aurigma_GraphicsMill_Codecs_IFormatWriter.htm.md) interface.
 
### Return Value
 **true** if format writer was successfully registered; otherwise, **false**.
 
## Remarks
 This method fails to register format writer with [UnknownFormat](https://www.graphicsmill.com/docs/gm5/F_Aurigma_GraphicsMill_Codecs_FormatManager_UnknownFormat.htm.md) or [UnknownBeforeOpenFormat](https://www.graphicsmill.com/docs/gm5/F_Aurigma_GraphicsMill_Codecs_FormatManager_UnknownBeforeOpenFormat.htm.md) media format ID.
