# IFormatWriter.Open Method (String)
 
Opens format writer on the specified file.

 **Assembly:** Aurigma.GraphicsMill (in Aurigma.GraphicsMill.dll)
 
## Syntax

Sub Open ( _fileName As String _
)
```

void Open(string fileName
)
```
 
### Parameters
 
 - fileName
     - Type: [System.String](http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/s1wwdcbf)
Name of the file to write to.
 
## Remarks
 After you completed writing to the file, you should close the writer with [Close()](https://www.graphicsmill.com/docs/gm5/M_Aurigma_GraphicsMill_Codecs_IFormatWriter_Close.htm.md) method. Until that the file will be locked and some data may be not flushed.
