# Font.GetCharacterPositions Method 
 
Returns an array of horizontal positions of each character in given text string.
 
**Namespace:** [Aurigma.GraphicsMill.Drawing](https://www.graphicsmill.com/docs/gm5/N_Aurigma_GraphicsMill_Drawing.htm.md)
 **Assembly:** Aurigma.GraphicsMill (in Aurigma.GraphicsMill.dll)
 
## Syntax

Public Function GetCharacterPositions ( _text As String, _startX As Single _
) As Single()
```

public float[] GetCharacterPositions(string text,float startX
)
```
 
### Parameters
 
 - text
     - Type: [System.String](http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/s1wwdcbf)
Text string to retrieve character positions from.

 - startX
     - Type: [System.Single](http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/3www918f)
Position of the beginning of the string (regardless to the [HorizontalAlignment](https://www.graphicsmill.com/docs/gm5/P_Aurigma_GraphicsMill_Drawing_Font_HorizontalAlignment.htm.md)).
 
### Return Value
An array containing X-coordinates of the characters of given string.
 
## Remarks
  
**Note** 
[GdiGraphics](https://www.graphicsmill.com/docs/gm5/T_Aurigma_GraphicsMill_Drawing_GdiGraphics.htm.md) can have [Transform](https://www.graphicsmill.com/docs/gm5/P_Aurigma_GraphicsMill_Drawing_GdiGraphics_Transform.htm.md) matrix initialized. This way you can draw text rotated, scaled, or sheared. However this method does not take it into account and returns values as if [Transform](https://www.graphicsmill.com/docs/gm5/P_Aurigma_GraphicsMill_Drawing_GdiGraphics_Transform.htm.md) is reset to identity matrix (sets no transformation).
