# ChannelsProvider.Channel Property (ColorChannel)
 
Extracts/replaces specified bitmap channel to/with grayscale [Bitmap](https://www.graphicsmill.com/docs/gm5/T_Aurigma_GraphicsMill_Bitmap.htm.md).

## Syntax

Public Default Property Channel ( _colorChannel As ColorChannel _
) As Bitmap

### Parameters
 
 - colorChannel
     - Type: [Aurigma.GraphicsMill.ColorChannel](https://www.graphicsmill.com/docs/gm5/T_Aurigma_GraphicsMill_ColorChannel.htm.md)
 [ColorChannel](https://www.graphicsmill.com/docs/gm5/T_Aurigma_GraphicsMill_ColorChannel.htm.md) value specifying an alias of channel to retrieve. Draw attention, it does not check color space, so if you pass, say, [Yellow](https://www.graphicsmill.com/docs/gm5/T_Aurigma_GraphicsMill_ColorChannel.htm.md) to RGB color, you will get a channel stored at the same index as yellow in CMYK (i.e. [Green](https://www.graphicsmill.com/docs/gm5/T_Aurigma_GraphicsMill_ColorChannel.htm.md)).
 
### Property Value
 [Bitmap](https://www.graphicsmill.com/docs/gm5/T_Aurigma_GraphicsMill_Bitmap.htm.md) class instance specifying a bitmap channel. It always has the same dimensions as source bitmap and its pixel format is [Format8bppGrayScale](https://www.graphicsmill.com/docs/gm5/T_Aurigma_GraphicsMill_PixelFormat.htm.md) (if source bitmap is not extended) or [Format16bppGrayScale](https://www.graphicsmill.com/docs/gm5/T_Aurigma_GraphicsMill_PixelFormat.htm.md) (if source bitmap is extended).
