# MetadataDictionary.Item Property 
 
Gets/sets item with the specified key.

### Parameters
 
 - key
     - Type: [System.Object](http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/e5kfa45b)
Key of the object to get or set. Typically it is a number that represents an EXIF or IPTC tag. Most used tags are available as static members of [ExifDictionary](https://www.graphicsmill.com/docs/gm5/T_Aurigma_GraphicsMill_Codecs_ExifDictionary.htm.md) and [IptcDictionary](https://www.graphicsmill.com/docs/gm5/T_Aurigma_GraphicsMill_Codecs_IptcDictionary.htm.md).

## Remarks
  
If at this key several values are stored, this property will return the first item. To return all the items, use [GetItemArray(Object)](https://www.graphicsmill.com/docs/gm5/M_Aurigma_GraphicsMill_Codecs_MetadataDictionary_GetItemArray_1_d02429b3.htm.md) method.
 
If you need to extract a string representation of this item, you should use [GetItemString(Object)](https://www.graphicsmill.com/docs/gm5/M_Aurigma_GraphicsMill_Codecs_MetadataDictionary_GetItemString_1_d02429b3.htm.md) method. For those items which returns a enumeration value, it will return human-friendly string instead of the number.
