# SyncHandler.SynchronizationMode Property

Gets/sets synchronization mode for the object.

**Namespace:** [Aurigma.GraphicsMill](https://www.graphicsmill.com/docs/gm5/N_Aurigma_GraphicsMill.htm.md)
 **Assembly:** Aurigma.GraphicsMill (in Aurigma.GraphicsMill.dll)

## Syntax

```
Public Overridable Property SynchronizationMode As SynchronizationMode
```

```csharp
public virtual SynchronizationMode SynchronizationMode { get; set; }
```

### Property Value
Value that specifies the synchronization mode for the object.

### Implements

[ISyncHandler.SynchronizationMode](https://www.graphicsmill.com/docs/gm5/P_Aurigma_GraphicsMill_ISyncHandler_SynchronizationMode.htm.md)

## Remarks

Currently Graphics Mill for .NET provides the following synchronization options:

|  Mode |  Description |
| --- | --- |
 | Synchronous mode | Operation (and its event handlers) is running in the application main thread. |
 | Common asynchronous mode | Operation and its event handlers are running in the auxilary thread. |
 | Asynchronous mode that uses main thread message loop | Operation is running in the auxilary thread, but its event handlers are running in the application main thread. |

Default value is [Sync](https://www.graphicsmill.com/docs/gm5/T_Aurigma_GraphicsMill_SynchronizationMode.htm.md).

**Note**
To use [AsyncViaMessageLoop](https://www.graphicsmill.com/docs/gm5/T_Aurigma_GraphicsMill_SynchronizationMode.htm.md) mode, application message loop must be running. In particular it means that you cannot set [AsyncViaMessageLoop](https://www.graphicsmill.com/docs/gm5/T_Aurigma_GraphicsMill_SynchronizationMode.htm.md) value into this property at application initialization event (such as form load, etc).

**Note**
Another thing you should keep in mind is that you cannot modify this property when the auxilary thread is running. So you cannot set these properties in all events except of [Starting](https://www.graphicsmill.com/docs/gm5/E_Aurigma_GraphicsMill_SyncHandler_Starting.htm.md) and [Stopped](https://www.graphicsmill.com/docs/gm5/E_Aurigma_GraphicsMill_SyncHandler_Stopped.htm.md) (that are called before and after the thread starts/finishes).
