# Layer.index Property 
 
Get the index of this layer in the [LayerCollection](https://www.graphicsmill.com/docs/gm5/T_J_Aurigma_GraphicsMill_AjaxControls_VectorObjects_LayerCollection.htm.md). Returns `-1` if the layer was not added to the collection.
